Lions Latest: Spring Season Winding Down
A look back at the past week in Lacey High School sports along with a look ahead

Baseball: The Lions went 0-2 during the rain soaked week, having a game rained out as well. Suffering through a tough start to the week, the Lions fell 12-0 to Central Regional. On Wednesday, their trip down to Pinelands Regional was postponed due to rain. Saturday, the Lions bowed out of the Ocean County Tournament in the first round against the Mariners of Toms River North. Lacey was the 12th seed hoping to upset the 5th seeded Mariners, but it was not in the cards in the Mariners 6-2 win. The Lions sit at 4-11 and 2-6 in the division, a game ahead of Pinelands Regional.
This week, the Lions will take on Barnegat at home on Monday at 3:45 p.m., and make up their postponed game from last Wednesday on Tuesday, at Pinelands Regional starting at 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday and Friday, the Lions will host Brick Memorial and Middletown South, respectively. Both games will start at 3:45 p.m.
Softball: The Lady Lions split two games this past week, winning their first one on Monday against Central Regional. The 7-3 win was only the Golden Eagles second loss of the year. Jenna Fleck hit two doubles, producing two RBI's and she scored a run as well. Matching Fleck was Sara Wright who also went 2-for-3 and had two RBI's. Katie Valiant was credited with the win and struck out two. The Lady Lions could not slow down the hottest team in the Shore Conference on Saturday as Toms River East defeated Lacey 10-0, with six of the runs coming in the bottom of the sixth.
