Man Severely Burned In Explosion On Boat At Blood Marine In Lanoka Harbor

Victim flown to St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston

A 24-year-old employee at Blood Marine in Lanoka Harbor was badly burned in a gas fume explosion at Blood Marine while he was working on a boat, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Employees were working on the boat at 1:33 p.m. on Friday when gas fumes “flashed over” one man and engulfed him in flames, according to the police report.

The victim was able to exit the boat under his own power, but suffered extensive burns to his face, head, neck and chest. He was flown St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston, Paprota said.

Lacey Township EMS, MONOC paramedics, and the Lanoka Harbor Fire Department responded. The accident is under investigation by Patrolman John Simonsen, Detective Alan Abrecht and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office.
