May 29: Walters Homes Supports American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Manahawkin
Team Gears Up for Overnight Fundraising Walk to Benefit Survivors

For the 11th consecutive year, the Walters Homes team will join the fight against cancer by participating in the 15th annual Relay for Life at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin. An opening ceremony will kick off the event on Friday, May 29, at 6 p.m.
The 10-member Walters team will participate in the weekend-long event to raise money to support cancer research, according to Team Captain Terri Morelli, warranty administrator for Walters Homes. With a fundraising goal of $10,000, the team will be camping out and taking turns walking around a track at the local high school. This year’s team will include Walters Group Partners Ed Walters, Jr. and Greg Walters, along with employees, friends and family members.
Southern Regional High School is located at 90 Cedar Bridge Rd. To date, 30 Relay for Life teams are registered for the event. This year’s theme is “Relay Rewind.” Supporters can make donations to the Walters relay team either by purchasing a track sign for the night of the event; making an online donation at http://bit.ly/1FnUage or sending checks or money orders made out to the American Cancer Society and mailed to the Walters Group, Attention: Terri Morelli, 500 Barnegat Blvd. North, Building #100, Barnegat, NJ 08005 no later than May 23.

“The Relay for Life is very meaningful to us because it recognizes the people in our lives who are survivors as well as those who have lost their battle to cancer,” said Morelli. “Our employees as well as our friends, family, vendors and contractors have been committed and very supportive of this cause.”
While every year the Relay event incorporates different themes, certain traditions remain the same such as empowering participants to “Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back.” During the Relay, teams set up tents and try to keep at least one person walking or running on the track at all times. Each Relay for Life invites survivors to attend a reception and help officially kick off the event by walking in the “survivor victory lap.” At nightfall, luminaria candles are put in bags and placed around the track as a glowing tribute to survivors or in memory of loved ones who were lost to cancer.
