Richard G. Hyer Of Forked River Dies At 69
Services for longtime resident, attorney, past president of Chamber of Commerce will be held on Sunday and Monday.

Richard Godfrey Hyer, Esq., 69, died at the The Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania of injuries following a fall.
Richard was born in Somerville, New Jersey and moved to Forked River in 1973. A graduate of Somerville High School, Fairleigh Dickenson University and the University of Toledo Law School.He was a practicing attorney in Forked River for 44 years.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Currie Hyer, whom he was married to for 43 years, two daughters, Dr. Jennifer Hyer (Brian Bohr) of Los Angeles, California and Kathryn Hyer (James Kissko), granddaughter Charlotte Isabelle Kissko of Haverford, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are his sister, Deleen Hyer Rotatori, of Plantation, Florida and brother, Dr. Fred Hyer (Lynn Hyer) of Longwood, Florida. several nieces and nephews, including Dr. Christopher Hyer, Terry Hyer Mattingly, Timothy Hyer, Mary Rotatori, Lisa Rodriques and Jenette Zubero.
He is also survived by lifelong friends Dr. Henry and Patty Karwowski, Neal and Penny Wojciechowicz and by Myles Hyer, his beloved cat and many friends and neighbors.
He was pre-deceased by his father, Dr. Godfrey “Fred” Hyer and mother Helen Fetz Hyer.
He was a proud member of Rotary Club of Forked River for over 42 years, where he was a past president and a Paul Harris fellow award recipient. Richard was known for his humor, his love of music from the 1950s, and the Pontiac GTO that he drove in his youth. He wanted to be remembered for “being 6’2”, his amazing career as an astronaut and being better looking than Troy Donohue.”
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Route 9 Forked River on Sunday Oct. 25, 2015. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 367 Route 9, Waretown on Monday Oct. 26,, 2015 at 11a.m. Cremation will follow and be private.
