Lacey residents will join in Bicentennial Park to honor all veterans at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.

“It’s going to honor all veterans from World War I on,” Roy Johnsen of the American Legion Post 517 said.

This year’s annual ceremony may include members of the high school band and student Matthew Moeller, who installed benches at the site for an Eagle Scout Project, will also speak.

“[Attendance] is usually sparse,” Johnsen said. “People just think Veterans Day is a day to go out and shop or something. I feel that everyone should honor the veterans because without them, who knows what language we would be speaking now.”

Members of the township committee will also be at the ceremony.

“We invite people out to the ceremony every year to honor all the veterans that are not with us anymore and those who are still with us,” Mayor Gary Quinn said. “They deserve a tremendous amount of credit for what they’ve done, giving us freedom.”
