Woman Dies In Head-On Crash On Route 539 In Lacey

LACEY, NJ — A Manchester woman was killed and a Newark man injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning on Route 539 in Lacey Township, police said.

The crash was reported at 11:35 a.m. at milemarker 15.9 of Route 539. The preliminary investigation found the 78-year-old woman, from the Whiting section of Manchester, appeared to have crossed the center line with her car into the path of a box truck driven by the 30-year-old Newark man. The woman was driving north on Route 539, and the box truck was driving south, police said. Neither person's identity has been released.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man suffered a minor injury to his left arm and was taken to Southern Ocean County Medical Center in Stafford for treatment, police said.

The accident is being investigated by members of the Lacey Township Police Department Fatal Accident Support Team along with the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department CIU unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
