While they were in the area, police saw two people, Rashon L. Peten, 37, of Asbury Park, and Kharii M. Pringle, 42, of Lakewood, "whose behavior raised suspicion based on prior knowledge and ongoing concerns related to narcotics activity in the area," police said.

Authorities monitored the two as they moved through Lakewood and got into a vehicle, then pulled the vehicle over for a traffic violation, police said.

Police found Peten in possession of suspected crack cocaine and found other narcotics inside the vehicle, and Peten was arrested.

Peten was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to turn over CDS, police said.

Pringle was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to turn over CDS, police said.

Both men are being held in the Ocean County Jail according to jail records.

The driver of the vehicle was released at the scene.

Chief Gregory H. Meyer praised the officers involved, saying, "This arrest highlights the proactive work being done by our officers during overnight hours. Their awareness, attention to detail, and commitment to addressing ongoing drug activity in our community continue to make a difference."
