LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Toms River man is accused of stealing a boat engine from a marina at Lake Carasaljo, Lakewood police said Wednesday.
William M. Cottrell, 41, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the theft that happened April 23, police said.
The theft of the Mercury boat engine happened at Traveling Tykes Marina, police said. The engine had been removed from a boat owned by the marina, police said.
Lakewood detectives ultimately identified the suspect as Cottrell, police said, and he was arrested and charged with burglary and theft, police said.
"This investigation is a great example of the persistence and teamwork displayed by our officers and detectives," Police Chief Gregory Meyer said. "Their efforts, along with the assistance of our law enforcement partners, helped bring this case to a successful conclusion."
The investigation is continuing, police said, and includes the Lakewood Police Department with assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, Seaside Heights Police Department, Toms River Police Department, and Lakewood Shomrim.
