LAKEWOOD, NJ — Drivers in Lakewood have some newly improved roads to travel, along with additional parking spaces and traffic safety upgrades following the completion of several infrastructure projects.
According to a Tuesday announcement from Lakewood Township, crews completed multiple roadway improvements throughout September and early October, including repaving, restriping and new traffic safety measures.
One of the biggest changes is along Second Street, where nine additional parking spaces were created in the township's historic commercial district.
The roadway was repaved and restriped between North Lake Drive and Park Avenue, with parking adjustments made following recommendations from the Lakewood Police Department and township engineers.
Other improvements include repaving and restriping Monmouth Avenue between First Street and Second Street.
Crews also completed work along sections of Gudz Road in the New Central Avenue area, as well as Claire Drive, Princewood Avenue and surrounding streets in the Hearthstone area.
The projects followed underground infrastructure improvements by New Jersey American Water and drainage work by the township.
Meanwhile, drivers traveling through the intersection of Claire Drive and Princewood Avenue will notice additional safety features.
The intersection now has flashing stop signs, "Stop Ahead" signs, stop bars and a newly striped crosswalk intended to improve visibility and encourage safer driving.
Township officials said crews took advantage of lighter traffic during the Jewish holiday season to minimize disruptions while completing the projects.
"Upgrading our infrastructure and improving public safety remain top priorities for the Township," Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein said.
The township also announced that additional infrastructure projects are underway or expected to begin in the coming months, although specific locations and construction schedules were not provided.
