Boy, 15, Killed In Hit-And-Run, Jeep Cherokee Sought: Lakewood PD

The dark-colored newer Jeep Cherokee was last seen on Albert Street shortly after 9 p.m., Lakewood police said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Lakewood police are seeking tips on a dark Jeep Cherokee in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a 15-year-old boy Friday night on Oak Street.

The boy and his father were walking east along Oak Street about 9 p.m. when they were hit by the Jeep, which was driving east, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said.

The Jeep, described as a newer-style Cherokee, was last seen headed south on Albert Avenue, he said.

The father, Jesus Lopez-Ramirez, 37, of Lakewood, suffered an elbow injury and was taken to the hospital.

His 15-year-old son, whose name was not released, suffered significant bodily injury and died at the scene despite efforts to save his life, Staffordsmith said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200. The Ocean County prosecutor's office is assisting in the investigation, Staffordsmith said.
