Fire Destroys UPS Trucks, Packages At Lakewood Facility: Reports
At least six trailers and the building were heavily damaged, the reports said.
LAKEWOOD, NJ — A fire destroyed multiple trucks and hundreds of packages at the UPS facility in Lakewood on Wednesday night, according to multiple reports.
The fire, at the UPS customer center at 710 Vassar Ave., was reported about 7 p.m. and started in one truck, The Lakewood Scoop reported.
At least six trailers and part of the building were damaged, but the employees were evacuated safely, the Asbury Park Press reported.

The Lakewood Scoop report quoted unnamed officials as saying the fire appears to have started in a package that contained lithium batteries.
An email to UPS officials Thursday morning seeking information about the extent of the damage and what customers can do to find out the status of their packages was not immediately returned.
