Lakewood To Consider Changes To $156.5M Municipal Budget Thursday

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Lakewood officials are set to consider changes to the township's 2026 municipal budget during a special meeting Thursday at 11 a.m. Residents can watch the meeting live through Town Hall Streams.

Resolution 2026-314, posted by the township Sept. 14, amends the 2026 municipal budget and lists total general appropriations of $156,499,656.95, down from $163,526,227.47.

The amendment also changes several individual budget items.

The amount of surplus listed in the budget changes from $21 million to $8,405,986.59. The amendment also adds $1 million in NJ Operating Aid and $1 million in UEZA-Lakewood Financial Assistance Loans.

On the appropriations side, street lighting changes from $400,000 to $1.74 million, while gasoline and diesel changes from $1.3 million to $2.28 million.

The township has not stated the reasons for those changes in the resolution.

A separate public notice posted Sept. 14 lists another special Township Committee meeting for Wednesday, Sept. 23. Residents can watch the special meeting live through Town Hall Streams, according to the township's meeting notice.
