Lakewood Man Indicted On Attempted Murder Charges

LAKEWOOD, NJ - An Ocean County man has been indicted by an Ocean County grand jury in connection with an April 2021 attack on multiple police officers, prosecutors said.

On July 28, 2021, Stanley Williams, 25, of Lakewood, was indicted on two counts of attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon.

On April 17 at approximately 7 p.m., several Lakewood Township police officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Lisa Robyn Circle. As officers were attempting to make contact with Williams at the residence, he attacked the officers with a knife, wounding both Officers about the head and face, prosecutors said.

Williams then barricaded himself in the residence, with the Lakewood Township Police Department Special Response Team and Ocean County Regional SWAT team eventually making a tactical entry into the residence at around 2:30 a.m. on April 18.

But as officers entered the residence, Williams discharged a BB gun in the officers’ direction, striking one of them. The officers in question were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Williams was promptly taken into custody, and has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest on April 18.

In a news release, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledged the efforts of Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Michael Abatemarco, Assistant Prosecutor Genna Moscato, and Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Esler, who are handling the case on behalf of the State, and commends the Lakewood Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department Special Response Team, and the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, for their efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Williams’ indictment.
