Lakewood Police Host AAA Pedestrian Safety Training For Area Officers

LAKEWOOD, NJ — The Lakewood Township Police Department hosted a Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Workshop sponsored by AAA Northeast on Wednesday, bringing together officers from Lakewood and several neighboring law enforcement agencies for training focused on improving pedestrian and driver safety.

The workshop covered New Jersey pedestrian safety laws, community outreach strategies and the "3E" approach to traffic safety: Education, Engineering and Enforcement. Participants also completed a practical training exercise on Pine Street near Simms Avenue.

The training helps officers better understand how to engage with the community, identify safety concerns and encourage safe behaviors among both motorists and pedestrians, police said. The department said it remains committed to promoting pedestrian safety through education and voluntary compliance whenever possible, with the goal of reducing crashes and injuries through awareness and prevention while ensuring enforcement efforts are "fair, professional, and focused on public safety."

The department thanked AAA Northeast for providing the training and for its continued partnership in promoting safer roadways.
