Lakewood Woman ID'd In Fatal Shorrock Street Accident
Breaking: Irene Perosi, 53, was hit as she crossed Shorrock Street Tuesday evening. The driver of the car has not been charged, police said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Authorities have identified a Lakewood woman as the victim of a fatal accident that happened on Shorrock Street Tuesday evening in Lakewood.
Irene D. Perosi, 53, of Lakewood, died Tuesday night at the scene of the accident, which happened about 5 p.m., Detective Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said.
Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said Perosi was hit south of Route 70 as she was crossing at mid-block by a 2010 Mazda CX-9 driven by James W. Howell, 66, of Toms River. There is no crosswalk in the area where Perosi was crossing and the area where she was crossing is poorly lit, Della Fave said.

Howell stopped his vehicle in the right lane facing southbound and called 911, Della Fave said, and Howell consented to a blood draw, to a search of his vehicle and a search of his phone, all of which were conducted. Principal damage to the vehicle and roadway evidence show the Perosi was struck in the lane of travel, he said.
Staffordsmith said Perosi suffered multiple injuries, and attempts at life-saving measures were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at 5:21 p.m., Della Fave said.

Detective Brant Uricks from the prosecutor's office assisted Lakewood Police Officer Alex Guzman with the investigation, and Brick Township police assisted as well, authorities said.
Shorrock Street was closed in both directions between Route 70 and Beaverson Boulevard for about three hours, Staffordsmith said.
The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has information should contact Guzman of the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200.
