Route 9 Crash Kills 1, Injures 3 In Lakewood: Police

Oliver Vasquez, 36, died in the crash Saturday night after a Ford F-350 hit the Ford Explorer that Vasquez was a passenger in, police said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Lakewood man was killed Saturday night when Ford Explorer he was a passenger in was hit by a pickup truck, Lakewood police said.

Oliver Vasquez, 36, died of injuries he suffered in the crash that happened shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday, Lakewood Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said.

Vasquez was a passenger in a 2007 Ford Explorer that was hit by a 2006 Ford F-350 driven by Matthew Sebolt, 38, of Colts Neck, Staffordsmith said.

Sebolt was driving north on Route 9 when he sideswiped a 2010 Honda Accord driven by Moshe Mashitz, 34. Mashitz was northbound on Route 9 and was trying to turn left onto 9th Street at the time, Staffordsmith said.

After sideswiping the Honda, Sebolt crossed into the southbound lane of Route 9 and hit the driver's side of the Explorer, Staffordsmith said. The driver of the Explorer ran from the crash before police arrived, but Vasquez and three other passengers remained and all were injured.

The other three passengers were identified as Omar Zamorano, 29; Aaron Morales, 54, and Jose Oliver Dominguez Calvo, 33. Staffordsmith said Zamorano and Morales were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment, and Calvo and Vasquez were taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where Vasquez was pronounced dead shortly after 9:30 p.m.

Information on the conditions of the three injured men was not available.

Lakewood police, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County Sherriff's Office CSI Unit are investigating.

"At this time no charges or summonses have been issued," Staffordsmith said.
