Weapon Allegation Prompts Lakewood School Lockdown: Police
Police were continuing to look into the allegations that a weapon had been brought onto school grounds.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — Authorities are continuing to investigate allegations that a weapon had been brought to school on Friday, allegations that led to a lockdown at Spruce Street School, police said.
Police were notified shortly after 9:30 a.m. that a weapon might be at the school, Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said Friday afternoon. Lakewood police officers and district security personnel secured the school and officers swept the school but no weapon was found, he said.
The school district sent additional guidance counselors and social workers to the school to assist and the school resource officers stayed at the school as well after the sweep, he said.
