The Princeton Judo Invitational has become the premier event of its kind in Princeton and the state of New Jersey. Over the past six years, support and enthusiasm has been increasing as more children and families become aware of the tremendous physical and mental benefits of judo.
After being canceled last year due to Super Storm Sandy, the 2013 Princeton Judo Invitational returns with a promise to be bigger and better. Due to its continued popularity and growth, this year’s event is being held at Princeton High School.
The competition is open to ages 4 and older. There will be a variety of weight categories and weigh-ins that will begin at 9 am. For those that wish to participate, the application must be submitted by October 3, 2013. More information regarding the application process can be found on www.princetonjudo.org.
Now in its 18th year at the YWCA Princeton, the Princeton Judo Club is a member of the United States Judo Federation (USJF) and USA Judo and it continues to be one of the leading Judo clubs in New Jersey for children, teens, adults, and families. The public is invited to cheer on all the athletes and learn more about the sport. Judo experts and elite athletes, including many who have competed internationally, will be on hand to answer questions and explain the finer points of the sport.
Judo is a sport, an art, a discipline, a social activity, a means of defense, a fitness program, and a way of life. It is a mental and physical education based on combat discipline. Spectators will observe the self-discipline and respect of not only one's self, but of others, during the competition. Judo is a sport that welcomes all ages, genders, weights, and abilities. The benefits are numerous, and it is an activity for developing overall body coordination, improving balance, increasing flexibility, creating confidence, and an excellent activity for overall conditioning.
