3-Year-Old Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound In Mercer: Officials
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon. Authorities recovered a firearm and the investigation is ongoing.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A 3-year-old child died after suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Trenton on Wednesday afternoon, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.
On Wednesday the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force responded to Princeton Avenue in Trenton on a report of a three-year-old child suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The child was taken to Capital Health Hospital and was pronounced dead.

The prosecutor’s office said a firearm was recovered. The child and family have not been identified yet.
Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora mourned the child's death, calling the incident "horrific. "This horrific act calls to mind the senselessness of gun deaths and innocent children in harm’s way," Gusciora said in a statement. "The city grieves for the family’s loss, and we ask you to keep them in our prayers."

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, the Prosecutor's Office said.
