Man Charged In Shooting Death Of 34-Year-Old Woman: Mercer Prosecutor

Jamar Leonard, 38, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and other offenses.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ —A Burlington man has been charged for the murder in the shooting death of a 34-year-old Burlington resident, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Monday.

Jamar Leonard, 38, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess a weapon. The prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to detain Leonard pending trial.

Around 9:06 a.m. on Feb. 12, Trenton police responded to a ShotSpotter activation for a female shot in the area of Prospect Street and W. Hanover Avenue.

When officers arrived in the area, they found 34-year-old Stephanie Vil, of Burlington with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at 9:19 a.m., police said.
