5 Things You Need to Know About This Weekend

A sing-along, a job fair, a chance to see Peter Pan defeat Capt. Hook, a lecture about sloths and an Indian PowWow are among the events going on in Lawrence Township this weekend.

Here are five local events happening this weekend that you need to know about:

 

Friday, March 11 – Guitar Sing-Along

A guitar sing-along featuring Pat McKinley will be held for children ages 1 to 5 (accompanied by a caregiver) at the Lawrence Township headquarters of the Mercer County Library beginning at 10 a.m. on March 11. No registration required. The library is located at 2751 Brunswick Pike (Business Route 1) at the corner of Darrah Lane.

Friday, March 11 – CJ Pride Job Fair for Teachers

Lawrence Township Public Schools will host a job fair for certified teachers or those college students in the process of completing a teacher education program. Representatives from 14 area school districts will be on hand to conduct interviews. The fair – which is sponsored by the Central Jersey Program for the Recruitment of Diverse Educators (CJ Pride) – will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lawrence High School, 2525 Princeton Pike. Friday, March 11 & Saturday, March 12 – Peter Pan

Students at Notre Dame High School will perform "Peter Pan" at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 11, and Saturday, March 12, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday. For tickets, call (609) 882-7900 during school hours or buy them at the door. Tickets: $12 for adults and $8 for seniors, students and children. Sunday, March 13 – Learn About Sloths

Linda Field will talk about her experiences with sloth preserves in Costa Rica and how she came to adopt a sloth named “Sidwiggy.” Her lecture will be followed by a short film. The event is for children and adults of all ages. Registration is required and can be done by calling (609) 882-9246.

Sunday, March 13 – Indian Spring Mini PowWow

Venture Crew 414, a youth development program for young men and women affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, will host a performance of the Gold Feather and Cuwe Native American dance teams at 1 p.m. on March 13 at the American Legion Post 414 at 100 Berwyn Place. The cost is $12 per person and includes pizza and root beer. Funds raised by the event benefit Venture Crew 414. For more details, contact Cathi by email or phone at (609) 915-7016.

 

And here’s a bonus event for you. Even though it’s not in Lawrence Township, you might want to know that a St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held in Hamilton Township on Saturday, March 12, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Details can be found online here. Another St. Patrick’s Day parade is scheduled to be held in Trenton on Sunday, March 20.
