The free event invites Mercer County residents to sign up as Election Day board workers, meet Board of Elections staff and view voting equipment. First-time applicants can complete an application in person at the event.

"If you have been thinking about becoming an election board worker, but have never applied, this is the perfect opportunity to learn more, sign up and meet our staff," Mercer County Board of Elections Chairwoman Jill Moyer said.

Election board workers assist voters on Election Day and set up voting machines at polling locations.

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen registered to vote in Mercer County, or a student ages 16 to 17 who is a U.S. citizen and Mercer County resident.

The Board of Elections said bilingual residents who speak English along with Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, Gujarati or Punjabi are especially needed.

Applications are also available online at mercercounty.org. After applying, applicants must complete an in-person training session, followed by optional online refresher courses ahead of Election Day.

Board workers can earn $300 for a full-day shift, from 5:15 a.m. until completion, or $150 for a half-day shift, either from 5:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from 1 p.m. until completion.
