Dead Dog Found Near Creek In Mercer Co., Police Investigating

HAMILTON, NJ — The Hamilton Police Division is asking for the public's help investigating the discovery of a dead dog found Monday near Second Avenue, police said.

Lawrence Township Animal Control contacted Hamilton Police at approximately 12:03 p.m. on Monday to report a deceased dog in the area, according to police. Officers who responded found a large brown male dog, believed to be a pitbull, on the side of the road near a guardrail close to the Assunpink Creek. The dog had no collar or other identifiers, police said.

Officers found items at the scene that could serve as evidence in the incident and may help identify who was responsible for abandoning the dog, according to police. Hamilton Township Animal Control was contacted, responded to the scene and took possession of the dog.

Hamilton Police Humane Law Enforcement Officers are working with Hamilton Animal Control Officers and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office to investigate all leads and identify those involved in abandoning the dog, police said.
