Barricaded Individual In Mental Health Crisis Removed From Mercer Home Safely

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A person was safely removed from their home Sunday morning after barricading themselves inside during a mental health incident, according to the Hopewell Township Police Department.

Officers responded to a Timkak Lane home at 9:29 a.m. Sunday for a reported mental health incident involving an individual who had barricaded themselves inside a room and refused to come out, police said.

During the investigation, the individual was charged with terroristic threats and harassment, and a warrant was issued for their arrest, according to police. Officers made several attempts to communicate with the person and resolve the situation peacefully, police said.

Because the person remained barricaded inside the room, Hopewell Police coordinated a response with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, the Mercer County Tactical Response Team, Capital Health Mobile Outreach and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

Following continued efforts, the person was removed from the home without injury, police said. There was no threat to the surrounding community or the general public, according to police.
