TRENTON — A Bridgeton man pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old Trenton girl, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey announced Thursday.

Alex Torres-Lopez, 35, entered the plea before Mercer County Superior Court Judge Sherry L. Wilson on Sept. 10, according to the prosecutor's office. Under the plea agreement, the state will recommend a 20-year state prison sentence, to be served entirely without parole eligibility under the Jessica Lunsford Act. Torres-Lopez will also be required to undergo an evaluation at the state's Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, be subject to lifetime parole supervision, and register as a sex offender under Megan's Law.

The prosecutor's Special Victims Unit opened an investigation in January after receiving information from Trenton police that a 12-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted, officials said. Investigators found that the victim met Torres-Lopez on the social media platforms Snapchat and Roblox and that the two met in person in Trenton on multiple occasions in fall 2025, according to the prosecutor's office. The investigation also found that Torres-Lopez had the victim send him sexually explicit images and videos of herself.

Detectives Natalie Martinez and Gloria Phillips of the prosecutor's office and Trenton Detective Taja Durling led the investigation. Senior Assistant Prosecutor Timothy P. McCann is prosecuting the case.

Torres-Lopez is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8, 2027.

Marbrey urged anyone with information about suspected exploitation or abuse of children, or improper contact between children and unknown individuals online, to contact the prosecutor's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at 609-989-6568 or the New Jersey ICAC Task Force tip line at 888-648-6007.
