That blaze was the second in the area in two days.
For the second time in 24 hours, Lawrence Township firefighters responded to a vehicle fire on the Trenton Freeway (Route 1) near Whitehead Road this morning, Thursday, Feb 24.
Today's blaze, which was reported at 8:09 a.m., occurred along the southbound side of the highway, just north of the exits for Whitehead Road.
Lt. Charles Edgar, a township police spokesman, said Kellie Greene, 31, of Harrison Avenue, Hamilton, told police she was driving along when her 1999 Nissan Sentra started to make an odd noise. She then heard a “loud pop” and then smoke began to pour from the engine. She pulled over and called 911.
