Anti-Corruption Resolution Passes in Lawrence Township

Resolution calling on town council to support state and federal anti-corruption reform passes.

Lawrence Township, NJ -- On June 21, Lawrence Township Mayor David Maffei and the town council voted for an anti-corruption resolution calling on the state and federal government to support anti-corruption legislation.

The vote passed unanimously, 4-0. Represent.Us Central New Jersey, partnering with the LWV of Lawrence Township, is the local nonpartisan anti-corruption organization behind this vote.

“Lawrence Township’s vote is another milestone in the fight against corruption. These elected officials said. ‘Yes,’ and became the fourth New Jersey town to build momentum for national reform." said David Goodman, Represent.Us Central New Jersey chapter leader.

Nearly 20 local residents filled the Council chambers to lend their support for this vote. They came as local members of Represent.Us, the League of Women Voters, church parishioners, and everyday citizens.

Lawrence Township now joins Princeton, Ewing, and South Brunswick in calling on representatives in Trenton and Washington, DC, to enact anti-corruption legislation.

Represent.Us Central New Jersey is a chapter of the national anti-corruption organization Represent.Us. Represent.Us members are conservatives, progressives and everything in between, working together to pass anti-corruption legislation in cities and states around the country.

“Local, grassroots victories are how we win this fight,” said Josh Silver, national director at Represent.Us. “Together we are building a movement, from the ground up, and fighting for a future where political outcomes are dictated by the best ideas, not the biggest bank accounts.”
