Captain Paul's heads to Championship Game !

Captain Paul's wins 7-3 over Boomerang!

Game on !! Yesterday's brief afternoon storm wasn't enough to stop the boys from playing in Lawrence Little Leagues / New England Division first round of playoffs last night at Central Park on Eggert's Crossing Rd.

Philadelphia Insurance won over Carroll's Tree Farm, 13-3 in the early evening matchup and will advance to Saturday's June 7th Championship Playoff game against Captain Paul's.

The Championship Game on Saturday will be at 5:30pm at Hughes Field on Eggert's Crossing Road in Lawrence.

As the players took the field for the 7:30pm game, so did the fog. Many joked and said they were waiting for "Shoeless Joe Jackson" to walk out from the fog from the Babe Ruth field. (Field Of Dreams) The phrase of the night was "the battle of the pitchers."

Captain Paul's hurlers, Ameer Hasan and Sean Hoffman combined for a season record 12 strikeouts. Ameer went 4 1/2 innings before handing over the mound to Hoffman deep in the fourth.

Pitching duties for Boomerang were none other than aces Garrett Maloney and Shea Mcquire. Both did a great job but allowed hits by all of Captain Paul's batters.

The game was off to a quick start in the first after Captain Paul's Aidan Loughran singled and advanced after Kevin Dallepazze and Ameer Hasan each made hits. 1-0, Captain Paul's.

Second inning brought in two more runs after Max Crouthamel, Matt Roman and Matt Carson each got on base after being walked and after Sean Corcoran and Andres Trujillo singled. 3-0, Captain Paul's.

Top of the order in the third, Captain Paul's put four more runs on the board after Aidan Loughran and Kevin DallePazze were each walked, an RBI single was made by Ameer Hasan and an RBI double was hit by John Weaver. 7-0, Captain Paul's.

Things started going the other way after Boomerang's loaded the bases twice in the fourth. It was Liam Keane who got things going for Boomerangs with a nice single hit in the gap to right field. Lead batter, Shea McQuire then hit a screamer to left center field plating Keane. McQuire's triple put him in easy scoring position. Chris Nevius and Garrett Maloney each singled and stole bases. Sebastian Centeneo, Jarod Featherston and Miles Kron were able to connect but after the inning ended, the score was now 7-2.

Deep into the fourth, parents and fans could barely see the outfielders as the heavy fog rolled in. Was that "Moonlight" Graham I just saw or are my eyes playing tricks on me? (Field Of Dreams)

The fifth and sixth innings were slow and few hits were made for both teams. Captain Paul's Hari Narayanam, Matt Carson and Andres Trujillo each singled but were left stranded.

Boomerang's last at bats brought with it the top of the order and a double by Shea McQuire. Chris Nevius, Garrett Maloney and Sebastian Centeno each connected and made it on base. McQuire was able to score but Maloney was tagged out at second and the final strikeout by Jarod Featherston ended the game.

Congratulations and good luck to Captain Paul's and Philadelphia Insurance as they head to the final, Championship Game !!!
