Beloved NJ Ice Cream Spot Coming To Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A New Jersey ice cream institution is coming to Mercer County.

Jersey Freeze, a Freehold favorite for nearly 75 years, is opening a new location in Hamilton, near the Robbinsville border.

The new store will serve the shop's signature milkshakes and soft serve, along with a food menu featuring burgers, cheesesteaks and more.

"This will be our first franchise location opening with our FULL FOOD MENU as well, bringing you the complete Jersey Freeze experience from Freehold," Jersey Freeze said in an Facebook post. "We're aiming to see you in early 2027."

The Blackmore family founded Jersey Freeze in Freehold in 1952, and by the 1970s it had become a go-to spot in the area for fast food and ice cream.

Katie DiNonno started working at the shop as a high school student and became a manager in the 1990s. In 2014, she and Matt Cangialosi bought the business from Bruce Blackmore, who retired, according to the Jersey Freeze website.

Since then, the owners have steadily expanded, opening a second location at Bell Works in Holmdel in March 2020, followed by a third in Colts Neck in 2025 and a fourth in Old Bridge.
