Developers Plan Assisted Living Facility At Lawrence’s Historic Gulick House

The application will be heard at a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 7 p.m.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The township’s Zoning Board will be hearing an application from Care One Management LLC to build an assisted living facility at the historic Gulick House.

The application will be heard at a special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 7 p.m.

The developers plan to build a 170-bed facility at the corner of Route 206 and Province Line Road. A use variance seeks a permit for constructing a three-story facility that will have 118 private rooms and 26 semi-private rooms.

This is not the first time the application is coming up in front of township officials. The developers and their predecessors, Laurel Construction Management, have been seeking to build the facility on the property since 1997.

A feasibility study was conducted to move the Gulick House to another location. “The house is not only significant with its high style Italianate architecture but also for its owners who were directly related to the Gulick Family of Princeton who were prominent in the development of the region during the Colonial era,” architect Maximillian Hayden wrote in the feasibility study.

The house was built in 1870s in an L-shape. The left side of the house features a two-story glassed-in porch. It features later Colonial Revival alterations.
