Engineering in the Environment: Creative Applications for the Next Generation Science Standards

Are you interested in seeing how really easy it is to "engineer" solutions to problems using re-cycled and re-purposed materials?  If you enjoy tinkering, creative model building and brainstorming new ideas, applying Design Challenges is a great way to build a better mouse trap, understand erosion, or wire a treehouse.  21st century learning is all about problem-based learning creative solutions and this certainly applies to environment issues.

Come and explore the idea behind the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in a way that opens new doors to applying the knowledge of science.  Linda Burroughs, Executive VP/NJSTA and science methods professor at TCNJ will share explanations and activities everyone can do.

ADMISSION TICKET: Please bring some re-cyclables like towel tubes, foil, baggies, paper bags, screening, plastic bottles, small bit of fabric, aluminum pans, old sponges, a newspaper - clean stuff.  A plastic sacks' worth would be great.

REGISTRATION: Send an e-mail with your name and contact phone number to lawrencenaturecenter@gmail.com.  This program is for adults (parents, teachers, and informal educators). Registration limited to 20 participants.
