Fatal Police Shooting Under Investigation In Mercer County: AG
A Trenton man was fatally shot when four police officers responded to a call concerning a suicidal man on March 14.
The Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that took place in Trenton on Thursday night, March 14, authorities announced.
According to the preliminary investigation, Trenton Police received two separate 911 calls at about 10:46 p.m. reporting a man who was suicidal or threatening to harm himself in the 600 block of North Olden Avenue, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Four Trenton police officers responded to the scene, where they found 42-year-old Jason Williams in a doorway holding a gun, according to authorities. During the encounter, two officers shot Williams.

Williams was taken to Helene Fuld Medical Center in Trenton, where he was pronounced dead. Police recovered a gun from the scene that was determined to be a BB gun. No other details concerning the shooting were released, and the Attorney General’s Office had no further updates to provide to Patch Monday afternoon.
This investigation is being conducted pursuant to the recently enacted law, Senate Bill 1036, which requires that the Attorney General’s Office conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody.
