Girls on the Run Participating in Rider 5K Saturday

The 5K benefits women's athletics at Rider University.

Girls on the Run of New Jersey East will participate in the 5K Walk/Run for Women’s Athletics at Rider University on the University’s campus on Saturday, June 13, 10 a.m.

Girls on the Run is a physical-activity-based youth development program for third-eighth grade girls. This year, Girls on the Run of New Jersey East marks 15 years of serving girls in Burlington, Mercer, Essex, Union, and Morris counties.

Girls have met with volunteer coaches twice per week after school for 10 weeks at sites throughout central New Jersey. Running is used as a tool throughout the program to reinforce lesson topics as well as encourage healthy living.

During the season, the girls prepare physically and emotionally to participate in a 5K run, encouraging goal-setting and achievement.

Girls on the Run has partnered with the Rider 5K since 2012. An estimated 265 girls are expected to participate this spring along with coaches, parents, and community runners.
