Green Author To Discuss Proposed NJ Amendment At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Maya K. van Rossum, author of “The Green Amendment: Securing Our Right to A Healthy Environment,” will discuss a bill that was introduced in January in the New Jersey General Assembly to amend the state constitution and enshrine a “right to a clean and healthy environment, including pure water, clean air, and ecologically healthy habitats” for every New Jerseyan at Rider University next month.

She will discuss the book, which includes a foreword by actor and activist Mark Ruffalo, at The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University on Wednesday, March 7. A reception for “A Green Amendment for New Jersey's Constitution: An Evening with Maya K. van Rossum” will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation and a Q&A at 7 p.m.

“Protecting New Jersey’s environment and natural resources is a vitally important topic that affects every single citizen of the state,” Rider Associate Provost and Rebovich Institute Acting Director Jim Castagnera said. “No one is more qualified to discuss the urgency of the amendment than Maya van Rossum.”

Van Rossum is a veteran environmentalist who joined the Delaware Riverkeeper Network in 1994 as executive director. Since 1996, she has served as the Delaware Riverkeeper, championing the rights of people to a free-flowing, clean and healthy Delaware River and its tributary streams.

The Delaware Riverkeeper Network is the only advocacy organization working throughout the entire Delaware River Watershed on the issues, actions, regulations, legislation, policies, programs and decisions that impact the health of the Watershed waterways.

The Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics is dedicated to public service and scholarly analysis of government, public policy, campaigns and elections in New Jersey. Founded in 2001 by the late Professor David Rebovich (1949–2007), the Institute is a dynamic and creative home where students can network, study and gain practical experience in New Jersey politics.
