Hiltonia House Tour

Hiltonia, one of Trenton’s largest tracts of residential single
family and townhouse homes, will host a house tour on Saturday, May 10, 2014
from noon to 5 p.m. This is the second time the homeowners of the expansive and eclectic 91 year old West Ward neighborhood will open their homes to the public.

The tour will feature a variety of homes situated on tree-lined avenues bordering the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park and Cadwalader Park, designed by acclaimed landscape architect Frederick Olmstead who also designed New York’s Central Park and the Lawrenceville School campus.  A special feature of this year’s tour will be an open house at Ellarslie Mansion in Cadwalader Park.  The centerpiece of the park, Ellarslie Mansion is an Italianate villa built in 1848 and now houses the Trenton City Museum. The museum’s many collections will be open to view during the tour.Established in 1923, Hiltonia is a community of 315 homes located near Route 29, three miles from downtown. The beauty of the neighborhood is in the diversity of its housing stock, from fieldstone Tudors and brick Dutch colonials to mid-century modern ranches, California contemporaries, and attached townhouses. The diversity and quality of the housing allows buyers at a variety of price points to purchase in the neighborhood—very rare today. Developer Samuel Hilton designed the neighborhood with large lots for the city’s wealthier professionals and attached townhouses (semis) were first built as workers’ cottages to provide the funding needed to jump start the rest of the development.

Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 the day of the event. They can be purchased
