Lawrence Board Of Education Member Resigns; Replacement Sought

Max Ramos recently announced his resignation for personal reasons.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Lawrence Township Public School District’s Board of Education is looking to fill a vacancy after Board Member Max Ramos resigned for personal reasons, the board announced. His term ends in January 2021.

During his tenure, Ramos served on the board’s Community Relations and Legislative Affairs and Negotiations Committees and chaired the Finance and Facilities Committee. He was also the board’s liaison to the Lawrence Township Growth and Redevelopment Committee.

“The BOE appreciates and thanks Ramos for his service to the students, staff, and residents of the Lawrence community,” the board said in a statement.

Whoever fills the seat next will serve until Dec. 31, 2018. That newly-appointed board member may then run in a special election in November for a two-year term ending in January 2021. Qualifications for serving on the Board are:

  • He/She is a citizen of the United States of America.
  • He/She must be at least 18 (eighteen) years of age.
  • He/She must be able to read and write.
  • He/She has been a resident of the municipality from which he/she is to be elected for at least one year preceding the date of the election.
  • He/She is not disqualified as a voter pursuant to R.S.19:4-1.
  • He/She is a registered voter in the district.

Lawrence citizens interested in filling the board vacancy should submit their resume or letter of interest with background information to Board Secretary Thomas Eldridge, Lawrence Township Public Schools, 2565 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.

The board’s Personnel Committee will review applicants’ letters of interest at the committee’s Feb. 7 meeting. It is anticipated the committee will recommend an applicant to the full board at its Feb. 14 meeting. The vote to select a candidate will be in public. Plans are to swear in the new member at that meeting.
