Lawrence Planning Board to Review Costco Application for Quakerbridge Road Location

A public hearing is tentatively set for Sept. 16.

Costco may be coming to Lawrence Township, nj.com reports.

The national membership warehouse club submitted a proposal to bring a store to Quakerbridge Road, currently occupied by a group of unused buildings on July 23, according to the report. The proposed site covers 156,000 square feet and multiple gas pumps, according to the report.

The company’s first location was under the name “Price Club” in San Diego in 1976, according to costco.com, and the first official Costco warehouse opened in Seattle in 1983. The two chains merged in 1993.

The company deals in multiple industries, including food, furniture, jewelry, toys, and supplies for pets, sports and funerals, according to the company’s website.

It is unknown what would be housed in the Lawrence Township Costco, according to nj.com.

The planning board will review the application on Aug. 21. Preliminary plans are for a public hearing to take place Sept. 16.
