Lawrence Schools Support Families Facing Racism, Coronavirus

Lawrence Schools are there for any member of the community who is feeling pain and anxiety in the faces of racism and the coronavirus.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Lawrence Township Public School District is there for any member of the community who is feeling pain and anxiety in the faces of racism and the coronavirus pandemic.

“As a school district that embraces diversity and is committed to creating equitable opportunities for all of our students, I wanted to reach out and address the feelings of pain and anxiety that many of us in the Lawrence community are feeling at this time,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ross Kasun said in a statement to the community. “Racism, and the very real feelings of unrest, are once again at the forefront of public consciousness. As we watch the news and social media, it is a stark reality that we are living through a pandemic of both a virus and racism, regardless of political affiliation or race, we must have empathy and not stand for any type of inequality or injustice. We must commit to a way of teaching that disrupts and dismantles injustices and inequality.

“As a Lawrence family, we know many of you are hurting. We are a resilient community, and we will continue to work together to create change and grow our understanding and acceptance of all who are part of our community.”
