LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — All seven Lawrence district schools received a bronze certification from the Sustainable Jersey of Schools for their efforts to go green. The district made the announcement in a Facebook post on Monday.
Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a certification program for state public schools that want to go green and conserve resources. Launched in fall 2014, the nonprofit organization provides tools, training and financial incentives to support and reward schools as they pursue sustainability programs.
The Lawrence school district has for years worked hard to reduce waste and promote more green initiatives.

The district has a Green Team, and each school has a Green Team leader.
Cari Gallagher, a third grade teacher from Lawrenceville Elementary, leads the district’s Green Team.

Certified schools and their district receive priority consideration in the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Grant Program.
The school district has applied and received multiple grants from this program for their various environmental efforts.
