Lawrence Township Girl Named National American Miss NJ Princess

Emily Ewig will now compete for the national crown at Disneyland in November.

Lawrence Township, NJ -- Emily Ewig is going to Disneyland to compete for the National American Princess crown and win a 2016 Ford Mustang convertible.

The Lawrence Township 6-year-old earned the trip to Anaheim, California, by winning the National American Miss NJ Princess pageant on Aug. 13.

The national competition takes place during Thanksgiving week, concluding with the finals on Friday, Nov. 25.

"We're very proud of our little girl," Emily’s mom, Sara Leta, said. "This pageant is designed to set girls up for future success, with a focus on confidence, communications skills and a commitment to the community. That she was chosen to represent New Jersey in the Nationals is an honor."

Ewig is a competitive gymnast and dancer, and plays soccer and the piano. She also enjoys playing with her sister and brother, as well as reading.

She will now spend the next year helping the local community, including working to promote awareness of pediatric cancer, helping children with special needs and reading to younger children. She also hopes to meet state leaders to learn about the work they do, her parents said.

Her sponsors for the pageant included her parents, Dara Cohen Photography, Ernest Leta and Casey Marcinkiewicz.

The National American Miss pageants award $1.5 million in cash, scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist the development of young girls nationwide annually, according to a press release announcing Ewig’s victory on Thursday.

Pageants are held in each state for girls between the ages of 4 and 18 in five different age groups.

The pageant Ewig won was for ages 4 through 6.
