Lawrence Township Police Department Seeking Public Input For Accreditation

Comments from community members on whether an agency meets best standards are sought as part of the process.

Lawrence Township, NJ -- The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) is examining all aspects of the Lawrence Township Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services, and it is welcoming public input.

A team of assessors will examine the police department on Oct. 16 as part of the voluntary process to achieve accreditation, nj.com reports.

The process is the same for all police departments and prosecutor’s offices seeking the highly prestigious accreditation.

Accreditation results in greater accountability within the agency, reduced risk and liability exposure, stronger defense against civil lawsuits, increased community advocacy, and more confidence in the agency’s ability to operate efficiently and respond to community needs.

The assessors review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed.

Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.

Part of the process calls for public input.
In the case of the Lawrence Township Police Department email comments may be sent to Lt. Brian Caloiaro at bcaloiaro@lawrencetwp.com. The public may call 609-844-7104 on Monday, Oct. 17, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., according to the report.

Telephone comments are limited to five minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with the NJSACOP standards.
