"Through his leadership, instruction, and mentorship, he helped shape generations of officers and contributed greatly to the professionalism of our agency," the department said.
Known to colleagues as "The Rock," Gocke was remembered for his quiet strength and steady presence.
"Though he was a man of few words, his wisdom, presence, and infectious smile left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him," the department said.
After retiring, Gocke relocated to Texas, where he lived with his wife, Delilah, and daughter, Kelly. According to his obituary, he embraced Texas life fully — exploring state parks, frequenting the Fort Worth food scene, and spending time at the gun range and lakeside with his dogs. He is also survived by his father, Dr. David Gocke; six siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with full U.S. Marine Corps honors is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Members of the Lawrence Township Police Department will wear mourning bands on their badges through June 26 in Gocke's honor.
"Your service, dedication, and impact on this department will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace," the department said.
