Lawrence Twp. Manager On Medical Leave, Longo Named Acting Manager

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Township Manager Kevin Nerwinski has been on temporary sick leave since Aug. 10 as he focuses on healing from a significant medical event, Mayor Christopher Bobbitt said in a letter to residents.

During Nerwinski's absence, Deputy Municipal Manager and Public Safety Director Chris Longo is overseeing the day-to-day operations of the township and ensuring the continued delivery of services to residents, according to the letter.

"One of the hallmarks of strong leadership is building an organization that continues to function effectively even when its leader is temporarily away," Bobbitt said. With the support of the Township Council over the past nine years, Bobbitt said, Nerwinski has built a professional environment and organizational culture that has allowed township operations to continue seamlessly during his absence. Department heads, employees and the leadership team have continued working together to conduct township business without interruption, the mayor said.

The Township Council has "full confidence" in Longo and the entire municipal team as they carry out the work of serving the community, Bobbitt said.

Bobbitt also said Longo will remain accessible and available to residents, businesses and community partners throughout Nerwinski's absence. Anyone with a township-related question, concern or matter requiring assistance should feel comfortable reaching out to him directly, the mayor said.

On behalf of the Township Council and the community, Bobbitt extended best wishes to Nerwinski and his family during his recovery. The mayor said he looks forward to Nerwinski's return as township manager, and that in the meantime, residents can remain confident that Lawrence Township "remains in capable hands" and that township operations and services will continue without interruption.
