Man Arrested In Fatal Hit-And-Run In Lawrence Township: Police

Nasir Reed is accused of fatally striking a gas station attendant who was trying to stop him on Feb. 19, police said.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Trenton man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Lawrence Township, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri and Lawrence Township Police Chief Mark Ubry announced on Monday. Nasir Reed, 18, is charged with death by auto and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident with a fatality.

Reed is accused of hitting a gas attendant as the attendant was attempting to stop Reed’s gray Nissan Altima in the parking lot of Quick Check, 303 Brunswick Circle Extension at about 1:40 p.m. on Feb. 19. Charles Nevius, 35, of Hamilton, was trying to stop Reed after Reed hit a silver Honda SUV, police said.

Nevius sustained injuries to his head and leg, and was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries, police said.

After viewing hours of surveillance footage and receiving a confidential tip, authorities identified Reed as the suspect and were able to find his car, police said. Reed was arrested on Monday in Trenton, and the prosecutor’s office has filed a motion to have him detained.

The investigation was conducted by Det. David Petelle of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team and Officer Andres Mejia, Detective Joseph Radlinsky and Detective Dan Gladney of the Lawrence Township Police Department.
