Man Attempts To Steal Package From Porch In Mercer, Charged: Police
A Trenton resident has been charged after residents found him attempting to steal a package from a home in Hamilton, police said.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Trenton man was charged with theft and other offenses after being confronted while stealing a package, Hamilton Police said.
On Wednesday around 11:37 a.m., Hamilton Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Phillips Avenue on a report of a package theft. On arrival, a witness told officers that they saw the suspect holding a package on the front porch of a residence. When confronted, the man dropped the package and fled on a bicycle, police said.
Officers found the package in the yard ripped open. They got a description of the man from a Ring video that showed him leaving the scene and checking the surrounding area, police said.

The man was found at a bus stop on the 3000 block of South Broad Street. He was identified as Calvin Stevens, 39, from Trenton. Officers also found an OC gel canister in his possession.
Stevens was charged with criminal attempt, theft, and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
