Bronx Man Charged With Attempted Burglary In Lawrence Mail Theft Incident: PD

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — A 30-year-old man from Bronx, NY was charged with attempted burglary after Lawrence Police officers apprehended him Monday morning near the post office, Police Chief Chris Longo said.
Yefry Hernandez-Martinez was arrested and charged with criminal attempt burglary, and released from custody on a criminal complaint summons.
On Monday, Det. Dean Sawasky was conducting surveillance in the area of the United States Post Office (Circle Branch) located at 2601 Brunswick Pike, due to the recent uptick of mail theft incidents occurring from US Postal mailboxes in the area.

Around 2:35 a.m., Sawasky saw a white SUV drop off a passenger along Brunswick Pike in front of the Post Office. The SUV then proceeded into a nearby business parking lot. The passenger of the vehicle that was dropped off was seen attempting to enter the Post Office mailbox in the parking lot of the post office, Longo said.
As Sawasky approached the suspect, he fled on foot and out of sight. Before fleeing, evidence of the attempted burglary was left behind and recovered by police, Longo said.

Sawasky and assisting Lawrence Township Police Officers then approached the white SUV and arrested Hernandez-Martinez.
