Man Charged in Fatal Shooting in Mercer County: Prosecutor

Seth Z. Bowers is accused of shooting Zaire Gibbs during an altercation on June 1.

A 21-year-old Trenton man has been charged with last week’s shooting death of Zaire Gibbs, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri and Trenton Police Director Ernest Parrey Jr. said on Monday.

Seth Z. Bowers is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

At about 3:50 p.m. on June 1, police allege Bowers shot Gibbs during an altercation in the first block of Washington Street in Trenton.

Gibbs was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he died the next day as a result of his injuries.

Bowers was served his complaints Friday evening, June 3, at the Mercer County Correction Center in Hopewell, where he was being held on an unrelated offense.

Bail was set at $1 million cash only.
