Man Found With Pipe Bombs During Traffic Stop In Mercer: Police

All local businesses and homes were evacuated as a precaution on Wednesday, as authorities investigated. A Mt. Lauren man was charged.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 51-year-old Mt. Laurel resident was arrested and charged after police found four pipe bombs in his car during a traffic stop on Wednesday, Hamilton Police said.

On Wednesday, around 10:57 a.m., Officer Broniszewski and Officer McGowan of the Hamilton Police Division were in the area of South Broad Street and Oldfield Avenue when they conducted a motor vehicle stop on a green Honda.

During the stop, Officers found four metal pipes with caps and green wicks, which were consistent with being pipe bombs, on the passenger side floor inside the car, police said.

The driver was detained and South Broad Street was shut down between Harcourt Avenue and Churchill Avenue for hours.

All surrounding businesses and homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities then contacted the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit who responded to the scene and took possession of the devices for destruction, police said.

Jeremy Giliberti, 51, of Mt. Laurel was placed under arrest. Search warrants were applied for Giliberti's residence and additional vehicles and one more device was found inside of his house, police said.

The New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit took possession of the additional device, according to authorities.

Giliberti was charged with Possession of Destructive Device. He was taken to the Mercer County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

The Hamilton Police Division thanked the New Jersey State Police Bomb Unit, FBI, ATF, Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, Burlington County Prosecutor's Office, and Mt. Laurel Police Department for their assistance.
