Toddler Shoots Himself In The Head In Mercer County, Woman Charged

The boy suffered a graze wound and is currently in stable condition, police said. The gun belonged to a PA woman, who has been charged.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 3-year-old Trenton boy suffered injuries after shooting himself in the head on Tuesday, Trenton Police said. On Wednesday authorities charged a PA woman with endangering the welfare of a child and other offenses.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning at 10:45 a.m. on the 156 block of Phillips Avenue in Trenton.

The child suffered a graze wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was then taken to Cooper Hospital Pediatric Unit ICU where he is currently in stable condition, Lt. Nathan B. Bolognini of Trenton Police Department told Patch.

According to authorities, the gun belonged to a woman from Philadelphia, PA who was visiting the family. Chante L. Odom, 30, was taken into custody on Wednesday morning and charged with third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of dumdum bullets.

At the time of the incident, two other children and a male adult were at the home, Bolognini said. No other injuries were reported.
