Mercer Commissioners Elect Chair, Vice Chair At Reorganization Meeting
For the first time in its history, the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners will have a female majority.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — On Jan. 4, the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners held their annual Reorganization Meeting. During the meeting, the board selected new leadership.
Commissioner Lucylle R.S. Walter who served as the Board’s Vice-Chair in 2022 was unanimously selected to serve as board chair. This will be the Commissioner's 5th term as Board Chair.
And for the first time in its history, the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners will have a female majority along with a female chair.

“It is always an honor to be selected Chair, but this year it is even more special. For the first time our Board will have a female majority and a female chair,” Walter said.
“There was a time when women had no voice in government, and when they were allowed to serve, our roles were perfunctory. In Mercer, we are proud to lead the state in female representation at the Congressional, State Senate, Assembly, County, and local level.”

Walter who is a retired Special Education teacher was sworn in by Louis S. Sancinto, Chief Judge of Hamilton Municipal Courts.
“Mercer County is an amazing place and during my time on the Board we have done amazing things, but now is not the time to remain static and status quo, we must continue to move forward by pushing innovative and new ideas that will benefit the residents of Mercer,” Walter said.
Meanwhile, John A. Cimino was unanimously chosen to serve as the board Vice-Chairman.
Cimino, a lifelong resident of Mercer County, is the Chief Strategy Officer at T&M Associates.
In 2022 he was named the Maurice Fitzgibbons County Commissioner of the Year by the New Jersey Association of Counties.
“It is an honor to be chosen by my colleagues to help lead the board this year," Cimino said. "Each year presents unique challenges, but this board is prepared to ask tough questions and provide solutions that benefit all residents.
Commissioner Nina D. Melker and Commissioner-Elec Cathleen M. Lewis were also sworn into office.
